A first-time visit to a dentist’s office – other than my own – a couple of months ago not only calmed my usual anxiety but, frankly, changed any preconceived notions of small-town dentistry. At the recommendation of a coworker, I went for a consult at the office of Dr. Adrian Simm and found a hidden gem in a place that wasn’t even on my radar: Delcambre.

I needed to replace an implant – or so I thought – that was only five years old, and was told that Dr. Simm has a reputation for being very gentle and friendly, and (here’s where my ears perked up) charges less than many for implants. I discovered that to be true and so much more.

A dentist for 48 years, Dr. Simm has been in Delcambre since 1981. After running a small practice in Colorado, this New Orleans native wanted to move back to Louisiana and bought a general dentistry practice.

Six years later, his practice stood out when he began offering dental implants and oral surgery, a service lacking among general dentists in the area. “No one was doing implants at the time because it required continuing education and sedation capabilities,” explains Simm. “I saw a great potential in a small area like Delcambre, where I could help people. I feel implants bring people who don’t have their natural teeth, and want a better life eating, an alternative as close to natural as possible.”

Dr. Simm has continued to offer a range of services to raise the standard of care. In addition to implants, he performs gum surgery, bone grafts and provides cosmetic services like veneers, teeth whitening and crown and bridge procedures.

With the latest treatments and most advanced dental equipment, his office dispels any notions about small-town dentists being limited in capability. His office uses an intraoral camera that allows a patient to see in detail exactly what is being examined. There is a CT scanner that provides a 3D image of the patient’s mouth to pinpoint the problem. A dedicated surgical suite is equipped for any emergency as well as IV sedation for more involved procedures or to make it easier for patients who experience anxiety when it comes to dentists.

I like that Dr. Simm has stayed at the forefront of dentistry, completing over 4,000 hours of continuing education in advanced dental procedures, including implants. More impressively, it has led him to become a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry since 1996. This prestigious award is the highest level of achievement in general dentistry and oral health, and is given to only one percent of dentists in the United States.

At Simm’s office, on Hwy. 14 in Delcambre, you get modern, high-tech dental care with the down-home approach to patient care and comfort that youDO expect from a small-town business. From the moment you’re greeted at the reception desk, you’re given the impression that all of the employees – who have been there 15 plus years – are on the same page in nurturing good patient relationships.

The service, technology and pricing bring patients not only from nearby New Iberia and Abbeville, but Lafayette and as far as Franklin. Many have been coming to Dr. Simm since he opened 44 years ago, and now he’s also helping their children and grandchildren, creating confident smiles.

“It’s been a symbiotic relationship between the town’s people and what I’m capable of offering them, says Simm of his flourishing practice in Delcambre. “I’m happy to be where I am, doing what I’ve done; it’s a testament that I’ve done the right thing all these years.”For more information about Dr. Simm, who is accepting new patients, go to SmileLouisiana.com
