August marks the start of a busy season for Anissa Trull, owner of Ambitious Creations, providing personalized clothing for children and adults, along with unique gift items and accessories. With no background in arts or crafts, Anissa is an inspiration for anyone looking to get into a side hustle with little to no experience.
In talking to the Carencro resident, she still marvels at how fast her business has grown in barely three years. Recounting the story of how it started, she says, “My daughter came to me with the idea of selling bleached shirts with sublimation patterns because they were becoming popular at the time. We did that for five months, going to festivals, farmers markets, and popups. I noticed others were selling a lot of the same items, and I wanted to grow the business with other products.”
While Anissa admits to a huge learning curve at first, she has become a popular vendor at the Delcambre market since first participating in 2021. “It’s the only market I attend – I do well there. I’m always very excited to go; my sister and dad come with me, so it’s a family affair.”
Named in memory of Anissa’s mother (who is remembered and admired for her ambition,) Ambitious Creations offers customized tumblers and cups, men’s and women’s t-shirts, women’s sandals, and other accessories, along with children’s clothing in sizes newborn to 6T. Adding children’s wear to her inventory has proven to be a good business move, as baby pajamas and onesies are among her most popular items. “Ninety-nine percent of the children’s clothing is the same quality feel as the popular Bamboo line,” she notes.
If last year’s football season is an indicator of business, Anissa expects this year to be equally good in selling team-themed headbands, earrings, t-shirts, and purse straps, donning UL, LSU, and local high school names. Working with her Sawgrass and Uninet printers from her home, she can personalize just about anything.
Repeat customers will see some new items at Delcambre’s August market, including LSU baby onesies, Louisiana-themed pajamas, and outfits for children with patterns of crawfish, pelicans, crabs, and fish. Along with women’s sandals and sunglasses, be sure to check out some of the new caps.
In the fall, Anissa has a selection of Halloween outfits for girls and boys that you won’t want to miss. Also coming are children’s Christmas outfits and pj’s, including a limited selection of matching family pajama sets for the Christmas card photo.
If you miss Ambitious Creations at the Delcambre market (the first Saturday of the month,) you’ll have the opportunity to shop on Facebook and Instagram from August through December. Items can be shipped, or drop-offs can be arranged.
