Who doesn’t want a healthier, happier new year? To get you on your way, here are some tips on giving up bad habits and implementing good ones.

Let Go of Behavioral Habits Like:

  • Getting involved in needless drama
  • Holding grudges- it’s been shown to lead to high blood pressure, heart problems, and a weakened immune system. 
  • Procrastination- Life is so much easier when you plan ahead. Start with meal preps.
  • Trying to please everyone: Accept that you cannot. 
  • Over-indulging: Give up excessive consumptions, such as alcohol, over-shopping or over-eating.
  • Playing it safe: Step outside of your comfort zone.
  • Saying “I can’t  YES you can! Believe in yourself.
  • Trying to do everything on your own. Recognize when you need help and don’t be ashamed to ask for assistance.
  • Gossiping- Remember, do unto others as you would have them do to you. Besides, it’s not constructive.

Mental and Emotional Habits to Give Up:

  • Busyness: Don’t create more work for yourself. Work smart.
  • Self-criticism: Give yourself a break, and acknowledge even the small accomplishments.
  • Worry: Don’t obsess about the past, the future, or what other people think.
  • Comparisons:  Avoid comparing yourself to others
  • Holding grudges: Let go of resentment towards others. It can lead to a host of physical and mental problems. 

Focus on Adopting Positive Habits:

  • Prioritize sleep. Shut off the computer an hour before bed time. Turn down the lights in the living room.
  • Exercise regularly. Consider chair exercises while you watching tv.
  • Don’t forget to laugh. Watch a comical movie or tv show once a week.
  • Declutter your home, a drawer, a counter and a room at a time.
